The director of archaeology at Historic Jamestowne is receiving one of Britain’s highest honors.
Officials say William Kelso became an Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire at a ceremony at the British Embassy in Washington on Friday.
Under Kelso’s leadership, archaeologists at Historic Jamestowne have discovered more than 1.4 million artifacts on Jamestown Island including the location of the original 1607 James Fort. Current excavations also have revealed the location of a church dating to 1608.
